Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire – Full-time – On-site

Are you a hands-on Finance Assistant who enjoys variety, responsibility and being at the heart of a busy SME? This is a great opportunity to join a friendly, long-established, family-run business in Long Crendon, supporting domestic, commercial and agricultural customers across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties.

You’ll work closely with the leadership team, taking ownership of day-to-day finance activities and helping keep the business running smoothly through its busy seasonal peaks.

The role

Working as part of a small, close-knit team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Posting customer payments, instalments and overpayments into the finance system
  • Updating cashflow spreadsheets and maintaining accurate income records
  • Preparing quarterly VAT returns and maintaining strong financial controls, documentation and audit-ready records
  • Posting supplier invoices and direct debit bills with correct VAT coding
  • Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards and supplier balances each month
  • Supporting a smooth, timely month-end close with accurate reconciliations and documentation
  • Preparing weekly and monthly payment runs, checking supplier records and bank details and resolving any queries before payment
  • Providing payroll administration support
  • Maintaining stock records on CODAS
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across the finance function and helping strengthen understanding of accounts across the business

About you

We’re looking for an experienced Finance Assistant from an SME background who is happy to roll up their sleeves and take ownership.

You will bring:

  • Solid experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and general ledger processes
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong numeracy skills and a naturally inquisitive mindset
  • Confident Excel skills and good experience using finance systems
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach, happy to help across the wider business during busy periods
  • Comfort working to deadlines in a fast-paced environment, particularly during the winter seasonal peak
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and colleagues at all levels
  • High levels of professionalism, discretion and integrity
  • Willingness to work on-site daily in Long Crendon – and be comfortable with dogs in the office

What’s on offer

In return, you’ll join a supportive, light-hearted working environment where your contribution is genuinely valued. Benefits include:

  • Competitive base salary, reflective of your experience
  • Holiday allowance and pension contribution
  • On-site gym
  • Free parking
  • Friendly, down-to-earth team culture with a relaxed atmosphere
