Our client, a global leader in their field, are seeking an Assistant Financial Controller to join their busy and growing team.

Job Purpose:

The Assistant Financial Controller will have responsibility for all aspects of Financial Accounting for the UK arm of the business as well as supporting the drafting of month end and year end accounts. As a valued member of the UK and Global Finance teams as well a Team player and collaborator, the Assistant Financial Controller will be able to deputize for the Regional Controller when they are absent and to serve as a vital business partner to the Management team. As Assistant Financial Controller they will ensure timely and accurate reporting of all financial transaction and support and mentor the UK Finance team in conduct of day to day activities.

General Accounting

  • Responsibility for month end close ready for review stage with Regional Controller. Including preparing accruals and prepayment calculations, journal entries, inter-company and fixed asset reconciliations etc
  • Assist the team with every aspects of the financial accounting activity of the business including Invoicing, Credit Control, Supplier Payments, Cash & Banking and fixed assets.
  • Prepare Balance Sheet Recs and help to monitor accounts such as GRNI. Communicate and help resolve any issues that are identified as a result
  • Preparing Cost Centre reports to identify variances to budget which can then be used to discuss with Cost Centre managers
  • Provide ad-hoc reports and analysis to help support the business and the management team e.g. labour efficiency analysis
  • Assist with tax and compliance such as VAT Returns, pension submissions, insurance documentation and ONS forms
  • Compile, maintain and update all documentation (e.g. company vehicles, leases, hire purchase)
  • Take responsibility for the UK Finance department in the absence of the Regional Controller
  • Act as holiday cover in small team

Accounts Payable

  • Assist where required to ensure invoices are entered in a timely and accurate manner to enable month end close on time
  • Review Accounts Payable month end close process where required
  • Ensure that purchase ledger control account as stated in both nominal ledger and purchase ledger reconcile
  • Review the purchase ledger and help to resolve or escalate any issues or concerns

Cash & Banking

  • Produce bi-weekly cashflow forecasts for review by the Regional Controller
  • Calculate and prepare required Foreign Exchange transfers for approval by the Regional Controller

Accounts Receivable

  • Assist where required to ensure invoices are raised in a timely and accurate manner to enable month end close on time
  • Review Accounts Receivable month end close process where required
  • Ensure that sales ledger control account as stated in both nominal ledger and sales ledger reconcile
  • Review the sales ledger and help to resolve or escalate any issues or concerns such as overdue payments or bad debts

Suitable candidates must have the following skills and attributes:

  • At least 3 years prior experience in working within Finance
  • AAT qualified or equivalent (Studying ACCA / CIMA or equivalent would be desirable.)
  • Experience of a month end timetable environment
  • Good understanding of general ledger accounting, accounts receivable and accounts payable systems
  • High attention to detail and proven record of suggesting improvements
  • Strong IT and analytical skills. Competent is MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience of leading a small team
  • Can work alone and manage day to day tasks
  • Ability to produce presentation ready analysis
  • Anticipates potential questions, counter-arguments or objections to analysis or proposals
  • Ability to cope with challenging demands and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good attention to detail and mental dexterity
  • Strong team orientation
  • Resilience with the ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to travel if required
